About the series, Art by Art
<Art by Art> is designed to guide a city as a museum—the first edition is about Seoul. Discover the selection of 44 modern and contemporary works through this book. This series will continue in cities around the world.
About the city, Seoul
Walking through downtown Seoul, the art installations placed before buildings naturally catch our attention. South Korea has a policy mandate that 1% of construction costs for buildings over 10,000㎡ must be allocated to an art installation. This policy was introduced in 1972 to enhance urban environments, promote art culture, and provide artists with new opportunities. Rather than solely presenting works that comply with the 1% rule, we aim to highlight the essence of these pieces, showcasing how the public can easily engage with art in their daily lives.
